“VINES TO WINES” CONFERENCE HOSTED BY NORTH CENTRAL MICHIGAN COLLEGE

North Central Michigan College’s Corporate and Community Education (CCE) Department and the Straits Area Grape Growers Association (SAGGA) offer “Vines to Wines,” a free networking opportunity on Tuesday, June 12 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Iron Horse Café on North Central’s Petoskey campus.

Meet and talk with cold hardy grape growers and winemakers from Northern Michigan.  Learn the techniques of growing cold hardy grapes and establishing a cold hardy grape wine business for public or pleasure. Discuss the best practices of transforming the grapes into award-winning wines. Then do a tasting evaluation of some of the wines produced here in Northern Michigan.

·  Featured keynote speaker is Bryan Ulbrich, Left Foot Charley Wine & Cider, Traverse City

Bryan will be joined in a panel discussion by Thomas Todaro, MSU, NW Michigan Horticulture Research Center; Matt Killman, Cool Climate Consulting; and Patrick McGloon, Mackinaw Trail Winery & Brewery.

·  Christin Popelier Hosmer of Alchemae Craft Beverage Consulting and 1855 Project will facilitate an educational tasting of wines from the Tip of the Mitt.  A Peoples’ Choice Award will be given based on the evaluations.
