The position ensures that marina facilities remain clean, functional and welcoming to for residents, visitors, and boaters. Objectives include maintaining high safety standards, preserving city assets and providing responsive service to marina staff and patrons.
Scope and Environment
Works under the supervision of the Harbor Master. Performs duties outdoors in a waterfront environment, often in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind and precipitation. Tasks may involve working on or near water, operating power tools and equipment and performing physical labor. Interacts with the public, contractors, and other city departments. May be required to work weekends, holidays or irregular hours during peak boating season.

Essential Job Functions
- Inspect, repair and maintain marina docks, pilings, cleats, gangways and floating structures.
- Perform routine building maintenance including painting, simple carpentry and minor plumbing.
- Maintain marina grounds: cleaning, trimming, debris removal and general upkeep.
- Assist with seasonal installation and removal of dock related equipment.
- Monitor facility conditions and report hazards, needed repairs or safety concerns.
- Operate maintenance equipment such as power tools, hand tools, pressure washers, small machinery and vehicles.
- Perform custodial tasks including cleaning restrooms, showers, offices and public areas.
- Support marina operations by assisting boaters, responding to service requests and providing general customer service.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections and repairs.
- Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with city policies, environmental regulations and marina standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, painting and general building maintenance practices.
- Safe operation of hand tools, power tools and small equipment.
- Marina or waterfront facility operations (preferred but not required).
- Workplace safety practices, including working around water and electrical systems.
- Ability to perform physical labor including lifting, bending, climbing and working in confined or elevated areas.
- Skill in diagnosing and performing minor repairs on docks and building systems.
- Effective communication with coworkers, supervisors and the public.
- Time management and ability to prioritize tasks during busy operational periods.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and complete tasks accurately.
