Aspects of America, opening concert of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra’s ’22 – ’23 season, will be held at 7 pm on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor. The journey through the history of American classical music spotlights composers from the mid 19th century to present day.
Featured is the 2022 Charles F. Davis Young Artist Competition winner Karlie Thomas, performing with the orchestra on saxophone in Darius Milhaud’s Scaramouche concerto.
Composers represented are Grant Still, Piazzolla, Barber, Villa-Lobos, Milhaud, Kernis, Bolcom, Paus, and Gould.
A pre-concert talk by Libor Ondras, orchestra conductor and music director, starts at 6 p.m. in the Community Engagement Room.
