Date: August 14, 2018
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
The Charlevoix Historical Society, in conjunction with the Charlevoix Public Library as partners in the Charlevoix Cultural Corridor, presents this fully illustrated program narrated by Society museum curator David L. Miles. Ever since it was called “Charlevoix the Beautiful” in the late 19th century, our town has played host to millions of people, become a major link in the economic development of the Midwest, contributed in a surprising way to bringing World War II to a close, been selected as the home of the first nuclear power plant in Michigan, provided vital material for the success of the Apollo Space Program moon landings, and seen dozens of notable people from all fields of endeavor, many appearing on Time magazine covers, grace its sidewalks. For such a small town so far off the beaten path, population just over 2500, Charlevoix has attained a reputation and recognition factor that stretches around the globe. Now is the opportunity to find out what were the main, and often unique, factors that made this happen.
